At 9:07 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, along with Mutual Aid Companies, was dispatched for the Dwelling Fire in the 7400 block of Wilkins Lane, off Quaker Neck Road. This is located in Quaker Neck, southwest of Chestertown.
Command 6 / Chief John Darling arrived with Smoke Showing. An area of the front wall, below a window, was observed to have fire inside the wall. An 1-3/4″ hose line was deployed from the first engine. Simultaneous with checking for fire extension inside the house, personnel outside prepared to expose the burning section. Once exposed, the fire was extinguished.
The home was deemed temporarily uninhabitable because the electricity had been turned off. The Red Cross was contacted and they responded to assist the residents with temporary accommodations. With no clear cause of the fire evident, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested. They responded and are conducting an Origin & Cause Investigation.
There were no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.
