Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company - Kent County, Maryland

The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company is one of seven organizations in Kent County, located on the eastern shore of Maryland. The company runs mutual aid with Queen Anne's County as the first due company in some of company 5 & 7's area. The company is staffed by dedicated volunteer men and women of all ages 100% of the time. Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company is a family away from home that is dedicated to serving and protecting the life and property in Kent County and northern Queen Anne's County. We respond to 500+ emergencies a year. We are the largest company in Kent County staffing three engines, one tower ladder, one heavy rescue, one tanker, one brush unit, one chief's unit and a spill support trailer. MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION - HIGH AT MORGNEC

05/05/2008 - 1716 hrs. Kent started receiving calls in reference to a MVC at the intersection of High Street and Morgnec Road. Rescue Box 60-1 was dispatched bringing Command 6-1, Engine 6-4, Rescue 6, Rescue 8, Ambulance 8, Paramedic 1-1 and Chestertown Police Department. Asst. Chief 4 arrived first and confirmed the Dispatch of a 2 vehicle MVC in the intersection passing Command to Chief 6. Command 6-1 arrived next with Chief 6 establishing High St. Command. Rescue 8 and Ambulance 8 arrived next to start patient care. Engine 6-4 arrived and was given the task of fluid containment. High St. Command placed the scene under control holding units on scene. Ambulance 8 handled the transport to 3300. Chestertown Police Department is handling the investigation.

Units on Scene: Command 6-1, Engine 6-4, Rescue 8, Ambulance 8, Paramedic 1-1, Chestertown VFC Fire Police, Kent Sheriff and Chestertown Police.  Units operated for 47 minutes w/ 11 volunteers.

 

 
 

 

CITY CREWS STAY BUSY

04/26/2008 - 0028 Alerted For the Engine Transfer To QA Station 7.  Engine 67 responded w/4 to cover the 1st Battalion (Northern Queen Anne’s County).

0151 Crews from Engine 67 were returning from QA Station 7 when Kent Dispatched Medical Box 80-01.  Engine 67 made the response w/4 and 2 BLS providers.

1608 Rescue Box 60-01 was dispatched alerting Chestertown, Kennedyville, K&QA Rescue Squad and Kent EMS, for the Traffic Collision in front of 916 Washington Ave.  Engine 64 arrived to find a rear end Collision with 1 Entrapment.  Aviation was called and Trooper 6 flew 2 pt’s to the Trauma Center. Command was under control at 1635.

Units on the scene Engine 64, Rescue Pumper 4, Rescue 8, Ambulance 8, Ambulance 8-1, QA Ambulance 5, Kent EMS, Trooper 6, Chestertown Police Department, Kent County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police.

2031 Hazmat Local 5-12 was dispatched alerting Engine 64 for the Large Fuel Spill at 6502 Church Hill Rd.  Engine 52 arrived to find approximately 5gal of fuel in the parking lot.  Command placed Engine 64 in service.
   
 

 

VOLUNTEERS KEEPING BUSY ON THIS RAINY MONDAY

04/28/2008 - 0738 AFA, Travis Trail, Butlertown. Command 6-1 and Engine 6-8 operated for approx. 17 mins. with 9 volunteers responding to the call.
1231 Pole Fire,  Handy Point Rd.  Command 6-1 and Engine 6-8 operated for 30 mins with 9 volunteers responding to the call.
1526 MVC/MCI - Lambs Meadow Rd. Engine 6-4 responded as part of the Mass Casualty Incident Task Force to assist the Betterton Vol. Fire Company with a motor vehicle accident involving a private transportation bus. Engine 6-4 operated on the scene with 5 volunteers for approx. 1 hr and 16 minutes. During this time the station remained attended with an additional 1-2 crews at all times. A total of 17 volunteers responded to the call.
1702 MVA, Washington Ave. Engine 6-4 operated for approx. 20 minutes with 4 volunteers at the scene of a minor MVA. Personnel initiated EMS care and assisted in preparing the patient for transport. A total 12 volunteers responded to the call.
1940 Medical, Water St. Engine 6-8 responded to assist the ambulance with a medical emergency. Engine 6-8 operated with 6 personnel for approx. 28 minutes. A total of 13 volunteers responded to the call.
 

 

CONTROLLED BURN WITH ROCK HALL

04/26/2008 - Rescue 6 with 5 personnel, went to Rock Hall to participate in a day of live fire training. 2 man crews were established, and each crew went through 3 evolutions before the fire extended, and the house was allowed to burn. Companies participating were Rock Hall, Chestertown, Singerly Fire Company of Elkton, Charlestown Fire Company, and Kent EMS. Thanks to the instructors who gave their time, and to Rock Hall VFD for the excellent day of training.
   
 

 

RESCUE BOX 60-01

04/25/2008  2020hrs - While crews from River City were cleaning up from the Box, Kent dispatched Rescue Box 60-1 for the MVC reported head on at the intersection of Morgnec Rd. and High St. Command 6-1 w/ Chief 6, Engine 6-4 w/4 and Rescue 6 w/4 all hit the street right behind each other.  Command 6-1 arrived first to find two vehicle’s head on one into the barrier, Chief 6 established High St command.  The crew from the Engine was assigned to secure the two vehicles and the Rescue was given the task of cleaning the fluids up in the roadway.  Ambulance 8 handled one transport to CRHC and obtained 3 refusals. Command placed the Box under control at 2040 hrs with units available on scene.

DUMPSTER FIRE IN THE 60-01 TURNS INTO WORKING BUILDING FIRE

04/25/2008 – Station 6 was alerted at 1755 hrs for a reported dumpster on fire at Washington College, 300 Washington Ave., in the area of the Swim Center at 1755 hours.  As soon as the station answered up, Kent advised they were upgrading to a working building fire adding Kennedyville, Church Hill, Rock Hall, Kent and Queen Anne Rescue Squad and Kent EMS.  Command 6-1 with Chief 6 responded as soon as Kent finished dropping the additional tones for the box.  He was advised a building to the rear of the swim center was off.  Command 6-1 arrived at 1802 hrs with fire showing and blowing, Chief 6 had Washington College command.  Upon arrival of Engine 68, the crew split up with 3 going to the roof, advancing one hand line   and the remainder of the crew made entry to the interior. It was discovered by the roof division (Lt. Russum) that workers had used a torch to install a rubberized roof product and apparently overheated a wooden support beam and it had smoldered for a couple of hours before it broke out.  A/C Slagle arrived on Tower 6 and had interior.  Positive pressure ventilation was set up at the front door. Rescue 6 arrived and set up air cascade operations.  Engine 4 was next on scene and established a water source from the hydrant in the middle of the grassy area across the campus.  Rescue Pumper 4 was added to the box and assisted with overhaul.  Queen Anne’s Engine 51 (many thanks) and Truck 7 filled in for Chestertown before being called to the scene to relieve the crews working.  Ambulance 8-1 and Paramedic 1-1 had rehab, Betterton filled their station and Engine 3 transferred to Kennedyville. FM 65 responded but was cancelled upon the determination of an accidental ignition.  The box was placed under control at 1835 hours and units operated for just under 2 hours.

TRACTOR FIRE IN THE 60-09

04/24/2008 - On 4/24/08, units from Chestertown, Rock Hall, Kennedyville, K&QA Rescue Squad and Kent EMS were alerted for a tractor fire with reported extension. Chief 6 arrived with a general purpose tractor and bush hog mower fully involved without extension. The assignment was held to Engine 6-8, Tanker 6 and Engine 7-2. Chestertown units operated for approx. 1 hour with 7 volunteers on location and an additional crew back at station.
 

 

ASSIST QUEEN ANNE'S ON 7-5 RESCUE LOCAL

04/24/2008 - At approximately 1300 hours, Engine 6-4 and Rescue 6 responded as the second due company to Rt. 544 and Burchard Sawmill Rd. in Crumpton for the motor vehicle accident. U/A Rescue 6 secured the vehicle while Engine 6-4 handled the LZ. 1 adult pt. and 1 pediatric pt. were flown to Hopkins Trauma Center by Trooper 6. 2 adults were transported to Chester River Hospital Center by Kent PM 8-1 and QA M- 5, one refusal was obtained by QA A-70. Units operated for approx. 45 minutes with 7 volunteers.

STRUCTURE FIRE ON EDGE OF TOWN DRIVE

04/22/2008 - At approx. 5pm on Tuesday afternoon, Units were alerted for a working shed fire in the Edge of Town trailer park. Command 6-1 arrived to find a 15x30 block and wood construction building (not a shed as originally reported) with heavy smoke showing. Engine 6-8 arrived and advanced an 1 3/4 line inside to initiate attack. Tower 6 was next to arrive, due to the tight confines of the trailer park, the tower was re-directed to drop a 4" supply line and perform a split lay from thepark entrance to the hydrant located approx. 1500' away. The tower crew then began opening up the ceiling, and advanced a second line. Rescue 6 arrived and opened up the roof. The fire was contained to the overhead where it was found that the original flat tar and stone roof and been covered with an A-frame asphalt shingle roof. Engine 4 arrived and completed the split lay to Engine 6-8. QA Engine 51 arrived and their crew relieved the initial crews performing overhaul and hitting  hotspots. The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal's Office, assisted by the Chestertown Police Dept., and Kent County Sheriffs office. Units operated for just over 2 hours.
