Annual Truck or Treat

Wednesday, November 4, 2020
On Saturday night, October 31, 2020 we hosted our annual Halloween "Truck or Treat" event. It was a great success. In order to provide a safe, healthy answer to the ongoing pandemic, we changed our traditional system.
Instead of holding the event in the Engine Room with self-serve treat bowls at each apparatus, we converted the event to an outdoor venue. We pulled our equipment forward in the overhead doors, even with the outside walls. We set-up four stations at each door where treats were handed out, using a basket that had been secured to a 6-foot pole with tape. Two members were assigned to each treat station, where one handled the pole, and the other loaded the basket with pre-assembled treat bags. The children had the option of taking the treat from the basket, or having it dropped into their bag.
All of our members wore face coverings. Those handling the treat bags also wore medical grade examination gloves. We must tout the fact that, with a few exceptions., all adult parent(s) / chaperones and many children wore face coverings.
We are extremely proud that we were able to hold this popular event, despite the pandemic. Children young and old enjoyed the opportunity get out and Trick or Treat. To our great disappointment, by 7:30 pm, we were out of candy and had to stop.
For helping us make our annual "Truck or Treat" an overwhelming success, we extend a huge "Thank You!" We look forward to holding it again next year. If necessary, we will use the same system for handing out treats.
