Stabilization Training

Saturday, March 21, 2026

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, members took advantage of the nice weather and gathered at the station to sharpen their vehicle stabilization skills using an acquired vehicle graciously donated by Bennett and Cohey Auto Salvage.

This drill was designed primarily for our new probationary members and was led by Lieutenants Willis and Swindell.

The training focused on key stabilization techniques for vehicles in a variety of positions, whether resting on all four wheels, on its side, or on its roof. One of the most important concepts emphasized was that any vehicle involved in an incident should be considered unstable until properly secured.

Members trained with equipment carried on our Rescue Engine, including our Rescue 42 strut system. These struts are designed to extend and be secured to the vehicle and/or to one another, then tensioned using a ratcheting system to eliminate movement. When properly deployed, they create a stable work environment, allowing crews to safely perform extrication operations such as removing a roof or accessing a patient through a windshield. Their design allows for quick, efficient deployment with minimal delaycritical when time matters most.

Drills like this not only build confidence in our newer members but also reinforce core skills for our experienced personnel. This evolution will be just one of several training opportunities utilizing this vehicle as we continue to enhance our capabilities and preparedness for real-world emergencies.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Bennett and Cohey Auto Salvage for their continued support of our training efforts and commitment to helping us better serve our community.
