Barn Fire - Augustine Herman Highway, Kennedyville

Wednesday, October 7, 2026

On Saturday, October 3rd, at approximately 1950 hours, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company and other mutual aid companies with a barn fire with reported rescue in the 11400 block of Augustine Herman Highway.

While companies were responding, Kent County 9-1-1 Communications reported that the caller was actively working to evacuate the livestock from the barn, resulting in the incident being dispatched as a fire with rescue.

Tanker 4 arrived to find fire showing from the north side of the barn and requested a Working Fire Dispatch, bringing additional manpower and specialized equipment to the scene. Tanker 4 was able to quickly knock down the fire located in the gable end of the barn using its bumper-mounted turret.

Tower 6 arrived and assisted with extinguishing remaining pockets of fire and conducting overhaul. The incident was ultimately held to Tanker 4, Tower 6, and Queen Anne's Engine Tanker 7.

The cause of the fire was quickly determined to be electrical in nature and did not require an investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Fortunately, all of the livestock were safely evacuated and were reported to be alive, well, and unharmed.

Chestertown units cleared the scene at approximately 2115 hours.
